The first meeting was held at Adjutant Richard Skinner’s barber shop with Warren Shultz as the first commander of Post 568. Subsequent meetings were held at the Stevensville Village Hall, old fire barn rifle range located at the old American house Hotel and in the basement of the Finance Officers Ed Geipel's house.

Land on the comer of Johnson and Legion Rd. was later purchased from Mrs. Tilly Copper. Two more lots were added later with money being advanced to the Post from Warren Schultz, his mother Anna (Komow) Schultz, Lloyd Both and Belle Robards.

All but the south end of the original building was blown down during a violent windstorm in 1951 and rebuilding of the Post was started in March of 1952. The building has seen three major additions to the original building with three monuments displayed in front of the building dedicated to the men and women who served during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Currently plans for a Veterans Park in front of the building are underway with a monument dedicated to our WW I. The WW II monument was dedicated on May 19, 2004 the same day the WW II monument in Washington DC was dedicated. Post 568 held a ceremony at the Post on May 19 with 72 WW II veterans m attendance. On September 20th of 2009 the Korean War Memorial was dedicated with a ceremony held in the upstairs hall of the post. Sixty-nine Korean War Veterans were in attendance.
